DGC charity website

Howdy folks,

Great to see everyone at the latest October meetup. One of the things we discussed was Jaymie's idea to our user group building a Drupal site for a Gold Coast charity. One day a month from a few members will give us the opportunity to build a real site, following best practices, spread the Drupal love and give some time back to charity. Sounds like a win win.

So we'll be using the site here at drupalgoldcoast.com to track the development. If those interested could comment here. If you could devote 2 hours a week, 1 day a month, that'd be great - but whatever time you can dedicate would be appreciated (and help you learn Drupal best practice).

First stage is to find a charity organisation, ideally we're after one in need of a website and with someone in their organisation who has an idea of what they'd like from their website. We then offer our services, on a volunteer basis, to build them a site.

We mentioned www.onthenet.com.au might be able to offer some free hosting. We could also approach getpantheon.com as I'm pretty sure they'd be amenable to offering a free platform for us as a Drupal users group working on a charity project (big benefit with Pantheon is they already have a Drupal based workflow setup).

So, please sing out if you're interested. Looking forward to getting some idea of the organisation we could offer a site to and getting stuck into it.

Chau chau, Saul
